UC celebrates HRM DAY
The College of Hotel and Restaurant Management of the University of Cebu had eye candies popping on the last day of January 2007. Dubbed "HRM DAY", it was devoted to show case the capabilities of UC-Main’s HRM students. Various activities were held to celebrate the annual event. The occasion was launched with the Euchaistic celebration and was followed by the "Chefs on Parade", with the undergraduates all clad in white, dressed entirely like professionals topped their immaculate toques.
The "Market, Market!" became an avenue for the students to sell their baked goods at the High School study hall. Napkin folding and Bed Making were held at the 6th floor, whereby students displayed thei skill in the subjects. There was also the Fruits and Vegetable carving while the Flower Arrangement intended for the hotel lobby was made. Chrysanthemums, asthers, anthoriums, imported mumps, and gladiolas easily transformed into works of living art in the hands of able students.
A baking contest yilded two students as topnotch bakes. Justiniano Eto’s moist chocolate cake came second while lobel Mendoza’s QueenElizabeth cake eaned the top prize for the category. Both are HRM freshmen. The "Fine dining and Out door setting up elegant tables. Some students too were avid participants in the very visual "Wine and Spirit Concoction Demonstration."
The "Chef’s Showdown" contest also distinguished three (group) participants as winners. Gerbe Cañacao’s Duetscher Sevabrate came third; UC-METC’s Kevin Jude Alburo and Sigrid Catherine Acdal, both taking up the Stewardship and Catering Course, bagged the second place with thei Eye Round beef; as Jaymar Cañ and Lobel Mendoza’s Pork Tenderloin with Rainbow sauce took the first prize.
"Everything was memorable", recalls HRM Dean, Dr. Felipe Embalzado, as the students had to make do with minimal time for preparation yet successfully made it in time for the final day of the Commerce and Criminology accreditation. He credits the success of the event to the creativity of the students.
