AWG is Valuable Filipino in Education
The exemplary achievements of UC President Atty. Augusto W. Go were once again recognized. Less than a year after Atty. Go was cited as Entrepreneur of the Year by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), it’s now the turn of the Philippines Foundation, Inc. to honor him as Valuable Filipino in Education through its prestigious Perlas Awards given to individuals and institutions. The conferment was held in Cinema One in SM Cebu on March 5, 2009.
Atty. Go joined a distinguished group of Cebuanos who as role models have touched the lives of people in the community they serve. Among this year’s honourees were Mr. Ramon Chiu as Valuable Filipino in Philanthropy; Mr. Juanito Jabat as Valuable Filipino in the Media Profession; Atty. Pachico A. Seares as Valuable Filipino in Journalism and a special citation for Mr. Rodolfo Niere, a waiter for his honesty in returning a diamond ring worth USD45,000.
The 2009 awardees for Valuable Institutions were Daughters of Mary Help of Christians; Young Ladies Association of Charity (YLAC); the Zonta Club of Cebu 1; and theCebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In Mila Espina’s write-up, she described Atty. Go as “the man who makes education accessible to those who have less in life.”
Ms. Espina stated further that “CCC was Atty. Go’s initial leap toward making the academe the channel to develop moral values and productive livelihood. His handiwork, the University of Cebu speaks for itself.”
Sharing with the glory of the moment were Madam Elizabeth Gan Go and Chancellor Candice Gotianuy. Also on hand to witness the event were Atty. Go’s very close friends as well as UC’s administrative and academic officers, nautical and nursing students.
