Over lunch and a brief program, newly-hired employees of UC Main had a chance to meet and Chancellor Candice Gotianuy on July 27, 2007. Dubbed “Acquaintance Party with the Chancellor,” the event provided an informal opportunity for the new teachers and staff to be with the university’s VIPs.

Atty. Nendell Hanz Abella, VC Administrative Affairs/ HRD welcomed everyone with warm opening remarks. Mr. Ferdinand Mendez talked about being “vanguards of social transformation.”

The keynote message was given by no less than the Chancellor herself, Ms. Candice Gotianuy. She enjoined everyone to enjoy and let loose during the affair. She gave the new employees a preview of what to expect by illuminating the UC culture.

To illustrate her point, she narrated the April 27, 2002 fire incident that gutted the High School Building at the UC Main, the first structure built in the late 1950’s which housed the school that was then known as CCC. According to Ms. Candice, the incident tested the true character of the university as the blaze showcased the stuff that UC people are made of.

“UC is not in its buildings, it is in its people,” informed Ms. Gotianuy following the fire tragedy. She furthered by saying that within the institution “We get things done... We continue the tradition.”

Over lunch, a string of dance and song numbers kept everyone amused. The songs of Ms. Windey Prado, along with the dances of the other new members of the High School Department Faculty held everyone in glee. Melnamae Garcia and Shiela Benedicto of the Student Affairs office emceed the affair.

The Acquaintance Party with the Chancellor has been adopted in other campuses as well. It was done in UC-Banilad on July 26, 2007, and in UC-LM on July 13, 2007.
