More Cohesive UC Faculty and Staff
In order to make members of the academic community get to know one another better and, in the process, bring about a more corporate sense of mission, first, as a department, and, eventually, as a university, UC sponsored a three-day Kool Camp Adventure for the Faculty of the Colleges of Computer Science, Criminology, Engineering and Hotel and Restaurant Management, together with Staff Members from the Student Affairs Office, Property Custodian and Registrar.
Facilitators from the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Incorporated (RAFI), managed the workshop, which included Wall-Climbing in Threes while being tied to one another and one having been blind-folded, Post Jumping from a height of 9 meters (which, of course, you have to climb first) in order to touch a piece of rope, and a High-Y Wire Walking with a companion with no post or another wire to hold on to.
RSN Paz Po of the UC Medical and Dental Clinic was present for the whole three-day activity to monitor the blood pressures of the participants. She found out that while the pressures of the participants were normal, she did not totally expect that the exhilaration and joy of the faculty and staff present would shoot through the roofs of the huts in the RAFI compound.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Human Resources Director under Atty. Nendell Hans L. Abella organized a Student-Geared In-Service Traning for Faculty Members. Dr. Elnora Image and Ms. Rebecca Ancheta of SAO handled the activity on Understanding the Psyche of the UC Student: Tips for Relating with Them; Mr. Cesar Nimor, Ms. Eva Ordiz, Mr. Neil Nadela, Ms. Roxanne Banzon, and Ms. Miraflor Versales conducted Instructional Games/Activities for Science and Math Instructors; Mr. Franz Josef Caminade and Mr. Aahron Dinauanao handled Excel Applications for Accounting 1 Students; Dr. Agapito Pino tackled Teaching College Algebra to Grade School and High School Level Students; Dr. Orlando B. Magno effortlessly managed Selecting Teaching Strategies for Different Types of Objectives; and Dr. Agapito Pino and Company shared on Micro-Teaching (Video-taping and Self-and Peer-Critiquing).
Over at UC-Lapulapu and Mandaue (UCLM), Dr. Helen Bulibuli of St. Anthony’s Learning Center; Mr. Nelson Esguerra of UC-Main Guidance and Dr. Ulysses Aparece of UC-Main Education conducted workshops on Teaching Strategies, Empathy Techniques in Dealing with Students and Effective Communication and Test Construction.
