UC athletes receive special citation
Five promising athletes from the University of Cebu were among the recipients of the San Miguel Corporation-Sportswriters Association of Cebu in the 22nd All-Cebu Sports Awards held recently at the Cebu City Sports Club.

This annual sports awards gathered Cebu’s best and gave due recognition to athletes who made the province proud by prevailing in the national and international competitions last year and also, to individuals and organizations who contributed to the development and promotion of sports in Cebu.

The UC awardees were Christy Sevilleno and Team Cebu City (Athletics), Emmanuel Motel Jr. (Table Tennis), Eldy Banluta (Triathlon), Elma Bacarro and Emily Rosas for Weightlifting.

Sevilleno grabbed the Most Outstanding Athlete honor for Athletics in last year’s CESAFI games. Elma Bacarro, on the other hand, put up an impressive performance during the Asian youth weightlifting in Indonesia. Eldy Banluta also made waves during the year 2003 when he lorded the 2003 Enervon National-Age Group Triathlon.

Athlete of the Year

The coveted plum went to Rodel "Batang Mandaue" Mayol who was name Athlete of the Year edging likes of Warren Kiamco and Alan Balais.

Meanwhile, Edward Lim Hayco, sports director of Team Cebu City-Dancesports bagged the Sportsman of the Year award for the second time for his exemplary work in paving the way for the resurgence of the sport and for reaping honors internationally.

Veteran Sports personality Bill Velasco charmed the awarding ceremony with his inspirational speech to the winning and aspiring athletes.
