Cesafi bars 4 players
Due to the stringent rules implemented by the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, some schools will miss some of its top gunners for this season.
In yesterday’s screening, Cesafi remained steadfast in not allowing players with discrepancies in their records to join the event. They were disqualified right away.
The team that suffered the biggest blow was Don Bosco College (DBC), which will be missing the services of Jefford Aldave and Ia Canoy because of academic problems, leaving a huge hole in DBC’s defenses.
Units
DBC Coach Rudy Enterina tried to plead his case, but to no avail, leaving the always animated coach to just laugh it off, saying that he will be playig with an all point guard team.
Southwestern University will have to bench Eva Diango this season after failing to enroll in the required number of units in the previous school year, when he enrolled in just 12 units in his previous school.
This will be SWU’s comeback to the Cesafi regular season after a long absence. SWU coach Dodie Miego will be leaning on Alfred Belande, Gilbert Gallarde and Eric Zanoria.
University of Southern Philippines Foundation lost Orleo Rizane because of an academic glitch and Keshler Singson for registering late.
The schools who passed the screening with flying colors are the Cebu Institute of Techonology, University of San Jose Recoletos, University of San Carlos, University of Cebu (UC) ad University of the Visayas (UV).
As expected, six time champion UV fielded a strong cast spearheaded by new Filipino-American recruite Gregory Slaughter with veteran Lancers Von Lañete and Rino Berami.
University of Cebu’s center will have a huge gap as big man Junmar Fajardo will be sitting the season out because of an injury. UC will be powered by Allain Abellanosa and Jonathan Canceran on the frontlines.
