UC sponsors Novena and Mass for Sto. Niño

The UC community took time off last January 17, 2008 and headed for the Basilica Minore De Sto. Niño for the annual novena and mass sponsored by the university.

Five “caros” were decked with various types of flowers and were carried by Criminology interns and Maritime cadets. Students, faculty and non-teaching staff from the four UC campuses filled the streets for the procession that started at UC Main. Classes and work were suspended that afternoon so members of the UC community can pay homage to the venerated icon as part of the weeklong Sinulog celebration.

By dusk, some 22 priests gathered to celebrate the 5:30 pm mass at the Pilgrimage Center of the Basilica. The celebrants were led by Rev. Fr. Jake Reyes, UC Main Chaplain. Rev. Fr. Jerome Yu, UCLM Chaplain, gave a humorous homily. Also in attendance was Rev. Fr. Luigi Kerschbamer, OAB, UC Banilad Chaplain.
