- UC LM is selected IBM Model School
University of Cebu Lapulapu – Mandaue was named as the IBM Model School after being the only school to have completed Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Data Base 2 Track of the Academic Initiative.
The selection came after over two years of project implementation. The program was initiated in 2006.
Of the 10 participating colleges and universities nationwide, five are CODE (Center for Development and Excellence) schools.
The said DB subject courses are embedded in the university’s College of Computer Studies curricula, and handled by a select group of UC instructors who were trained and monitored by IBM Philippines.
The program is set with the principal objective of providing the 10 implementing schools in the Philippines with the educational resources to assist students to develop IT-based competencies.
Additionally, UCLM is the only school to have an IBM-enabled and certified DB 2 instructor in the person of Mr. Ruel F. Sarsaba.
The appraisal was gauged on school learning environment outcome or the school’s over-all capability and sustainability of the IBM program; Faculty Competence and Outcome which looks into the teacher-implementers’ professional qualifications and academic support to students throughout the program execution; and the Student Outcome which includes subject participation and completion, certifications and students’ achievement.
Aside from winning the IBM Model School Award, UCLM also garnered the IBM Model Student Award won by Mr. Francis Frederick Robles who topped the certification examination conducted on March 27, 2008.
Out of the 32 from UCLM who took this certificate examination, 19 passed.
“This is a big boost to our morale here in UCLM,” said Mr. Allan C. Espiritu, Chairperson of the UCLM College of Computer Studies. He thanked Engr. Analiza B. Son, the UCLM Campus Academic Director, for her all-out support for the program.
