Ms. Marie Chris V. Soque of the Main Campus and Mr. Ramces Dungog of the Lapulapu-Mandaue Campus headed for Silla University (SU) in Busan, South Korea on March 10, 2007 for their graduate studies.

The two UC IT instructors bested 28 other candidates from within the university and 156 worldwide who sent applications to Silla University. They were selected by a panel from the Ministry of Information Communications.

They will be attending the two-year Masteral or Doctoral Program. Each scholar will be receiving a ,000 per semester allowance with free accommodation.

One vital requirement is the nominees’ facility with the English language as a medium of communication, as they will be teaching Korean undergraduates and conducting the classes in English, in Busan.

“We will be imparting the Korean students with our lesson plans from UC and blending them with newly learned concepts and information available in SU,” informed Soque. Both Soque and Dungog will be handling Artificial Intelligence and Database respectively.

During the course of their study, they will also be working closely with Silla University professors on research projects.

The pair is grateful to the university for the opportunity. Apart from their obvious proficiency in their field, especially with computer programming, Soquo is passionately inclined to Artificial Intelligence while Dungog banks on his strong background in Database, coupled with an impressive scholastic record.

“We expect to attain a new level of learning and new ideas from this exposure. Ultimately, what we learn will be echoed to our UC IT studentry,” anticipates Mr. Dungog. Ms. Suquo hopes to impart the Artificial Intelligence side to BS Information Technology and BS Computer Engineering students upon her return.

The duo is also optimistic in bringing the world of 3D technology to the university after two years.
